About Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Cuyahoga Valley is a 33,000-acre park between Cleveland and Akron along the Cuyahoga River. One of the most visited national parks in the country, it offers hiking, biking on the Towpath Trail, a scenic railway, waterfalls, and a restored 19th-century canal. Brandywine Falls is one of Ohio's most photographed natural features.

Top Highlights

  • βœ“Brandywine Falls β€” 65-ft waterfall, most popular and photographed site in the park
  • βœ“Towpath Trail β€” 20 miles of flat trail along historic Ohio & Erie Canal
  • βœ“Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad β€” vintage train rides through the valley
  • βœ“Ledges Trail β€” unique Sharon conglomerate rock formations
  • βœ“Blue Hen Falls β€” less crowded waterfall, excellent for photography
  • βœ“Stanford House hostel β€” 1843 farmhouse hostel inside the park

Best Time to Visit

Year-round β€” one of few parks fully accessible in winter. Fall foliage (mid-October) is spectacular. Spring brings peak waterfall flows. Summer weekends are very crowded.

πŸ’‘ Insider Tip

The park has no entrance fee and no traditional gateway town β€” it is surrounded by suburban areas. Peninsula is the closest small town with some B&Bs. Akron and Cleveland offer full hotel selections 30-40 minutes away.
